Overview

The Vivekanandha group of educational institution started its very own dental college exclusively for women with outpatient Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department and in Patient Hospital facility in the year 2007. Maxillofacial surgery department provides the highest standard of surgical care for oral diseases ranging from benign and malignant tumours of Head & Neck, soft and hard tissue trauma, orthognathic surgery, and minor surgical procedures including impacted tooth removal and alveolar ridge corrections.

Our Team has specialized knowledge & experience in managing complex Maxillofacial trauma including Temporomandibular bone fracture and complex multiple facial injuries. Apart from training individual students in the area of minor surgical procedures and hospital ward inpatient skill, we also provide individual hands-on training with basic and advanced cardiac life support in association with American Heart Association.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeryclinic has 37 dental units and chairs with an attached air conditioned and well-equipped minor operation theatre. The major cases are posted in Vivekanandha Medical care hospital. The undergraduate trainees are well exposed to ample number of basic exodontia, minor and major oral surgical procedures.

Our students have presented various papers and posters in national conferences and added jewel by winning Gold medal in TN-AOMSI 2018 examination. Dr.Sherin final year BDS student was honoured with The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University gold medal in the final year examination. We have completed two ICMR studies and was granted research fund for two projects.

Surgical procedures carried out in the outpatient department are

  • Pre-prosthetic surgeries including Alveoloplasty, Frenectomy, Ridge augmentation, Tuberoplasty, vestibuloplasty…
  • Endodontic periapical surgeries.
  • Medical emergency management and basic life support.
  • Minor trauma management of facial bone fractures including intermaxillary fixation, arch bars, per alveolar wiring, etc.

Major surgical procedures carried in general anaesthesia are

  • Emergency Facial-trauma management.
  • Maxillofacial fracture management.
  • Orthognathic surgical procedures.
  • Surgical Excision of Cyst & Benign tumours.
  • Cleft and craniofacial procedures.
  • Temporo mandibular joint surgeries.
