Thyroid – “TYRO-TIRO”
Department of Basic Medical Science
The Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted an Integrated Symposium on Thyroid – “TYRO-TIRO” on 31st March 2016 at the College Auditorium. The Symposium was conducted to create an awareness on the recent trends in the diagnosis & the management of Thyroid disorders among the Post graduates and Undergraduate students. This academic event was awarded 5 Credit points by the centre for CME Accreditation Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. Around 400 delegates including Faculties, Postgraduates and Undergraduates participated in this Symposium.
The Integrated Symposium began with the formal Inaugural function at 10 am with the Principal Dr. (Capt). Gokulanathan B.Sc., MDS, presiding over the function. The welcome address was given by the Dr. G. Purushothaman. The Principal welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. J. Baby John, Principal, Vinayaka Missions Sankaracharya Dental College delivered the Inaugural address and launched a newly designed Logo of Basic Medical Sciences. He stressed the importance of thyroid disorder and its importance when the students are approaching the patient with undiagnosed thyroid disorders in the dental chair.
The Chief Guest delivered a special address and this was followed by a Scientific Session. The following topics were included in the Symposium.
Dr. S. Saravanakumar, Professor of Anatomy, CSI Dental College & Hospital, Madurai, delivered his lecture on “Anatomy of Thyroid Gland”
This was followed by Dr. J. Ashok, Asst. Professor of Physiology, Vinayaka Mission Medical College, Salem delivered lecture on “Mechanism of Action of Thyroid Hormones and Functions of Thyroxine”
“Thyroid Function Test” by Dr. Philips Abraham, Assc. Prof. Biochemistry,Vinayaka Mission Medical College, Salem and “Thyroid Disorders” by Dr. A. Paneerselvam, Consultant Cardiologist, Vivekanandha Medical Care Hospital, Tiruchengode.
Finally, the Symposium was concluded with the Vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sachu Philip & National Anthem and followed by lunch.
Teaching Methodology
Department of Public Health Dentistry
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on "Orientation to Teaching Methodology” on 21st October 2016 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to create awareness on the teaching methodology among the Post graduates and Undergraduate students. This academic event was awarded 5 Credit points by the prestigious Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. Around 150 delegates including Faculties, Postgraduates and Undergraduates were participated in this Programme.
The programme began with the formal Inaugural function at 9.15 am with the Principal Dr. (Capt). Gokulanathan B.Sc., MDS, presiding over the function. The welcome address was given by the Dr. S. Ranganath Sanga. The Principal welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. R. Munir Ahamed, delivered the Inaugural address.
Dr. M. Shivakumar MDS, delivered the speech on "Acharyopadesha from Thythareeya upanishad. He spoke about the purpose of education and the ways to lead a fruitful life. It was followed by Dr. R. Munir Ahamed MD.,(Hom), MBA(Edn Mgt), on "Orientation to teaching methodology", Need for formal training in educational principles, components of educational planning.
Finally, the CDE was concluded with the Vote of thanks proposed which was proposed by Dr. Nagalakshmi & with National Anthem.
Novel trends in Oral Medicine
Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on “Novel Trends in Oral Medicine” on 13th December 2016 at the College Auditorium. The Programme was conducted to create awareness on recent technological advances in the field of oral medicine that have made an impact on clinical dental practice among the Post graduates and Undergraduate students. This academic event was awarded 3 Credit points by the centre for CME Accreditation Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. Around 350 delegates including Faculties, Postgraduates and Undergraduates participated in this CDE Programme.
This seminar began with the formal Inaugural function at 1:15pm with the Vice Principal Dr. N.Balan, MDS, presiding over the function. The Vice Principal welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr.Elangavon, MDS, Professor & HOD, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, KSR Dental College and delivered the Inaugural address.
The Chief Guest delivered a special address and this was followed by a Scientific Session. He delivered a lecture on “Current Trends of Diagnostic Aids in Oral Medicine”. This lecture intended about chair side techniques, imaging and lab investigations which are helpful in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring the treatment outcome of many oral diseases and oral manifestation of systemic diseases.
This was followed by Dr. Sunita Amrutesh, MDS, Professor of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women, Tiruchengode who has delivered a lecture on “Integrated therapeutic approach using Ayurveda in Oral Medicine”. This presentation was all about the etiopathogenesis and management of dental diseases using Ayurveda.
Finally, the Symposium was concluded with the Vote of thanks proposed by the Post Graduate student of Oral Medicine and Radiology & National Anthem followed by Hi-Tea.
Do’s and Dont’s
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on DO’S AND DONT’S IN MINOR DENTOALVEOLAR SURGERY on 14th December 2016 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to create awareness on the procedures of minor oral surgery in dental practice among the Teaching faculty, Post graduates and Undergraduate students. This academic event was awarded 5 Credit points by the prestigious Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. Around 450 delegates including Faculties, Postgraduates and Undergraduates were participated in this programme.
The event began at 1.15 pm with the Vice Principal Dr. N.Balan MDS, presiding over the function. The programme was started with prayer song rendered by Dr.B.Gowri MDS .The welcome address was delivered by the Prof. Dr. S. Venkatraman MDS.
The first speaker of the day was Dr. R. Murugan MDS and he delivered his lecture on Do's in Minor dentoalveolar surgery. He explained in detail about the importance of clinical examination, bio chemical analysis, radiographic investigations and the importance of medico legal considerations with informed consent form for any dental procedure.
The next speaker was Prof Dr.A.Thangavelu MDS DNB, delivered a lecture on Dont's in Minor dentoalveolar surgery . He explained various delicate clinical situations which are commonly faced in dental clinic practice and its effective management. He enlightened the audience regarding the scope of dentistry today. He also spoke the role of an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in minor dental procedures and he stressed to have a healthy inter specialty referral relationship to carry dentistry to the higher level.
Dr.T.Kavin MDS was delivered vote of thanks and The programme was concluded with National Anthem.
Dental Ceramics
Department of Prosthodontics, Croen and Bridge
Department of Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education workshop Programme on "Dental ceramics - Demystified” on 26th December 2016 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to create awareness on the materials and tedious laboratory aspects of ceramic technology among the Post graduates and Undergraduate students. This academic event was accredited with 10 Credit points by our Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University. Around 150 delegates participated in this Programme.
The programme began with the formal Inaugural function at 9.15 am with Dr.Devaki M.D.S., presiding over the function.
The welcome address and chief guest introduction was given by Dr. K. Balu M.D.S., Prof & Head of the Department.
The Vice Principal, Dr.N.Balan, M.D.S., welcomed the chief guest Dr. Sriraman M.D.S., (Prosthodontics) and the delivered the inaugural address
The first speaker of the day was Dr.R. Ajay M.D.S., who delivered lecture on "Material science of ceramo-metal restorations”
This was followed by Dr. R. Manikandan M.D.S., who delivered a lecture on “Material science of all ceramic systems”.
The laboratory aspects of ceramic systems with a vivid elucidated lecture was delivered and succeeded by hands-on demonstration by Dr. T. Sriraman M.D.S., (Director of Sri Dental Groups, Dindigal)
Dr.P.Manonmani M.D.S., delivered Vote of thanks and the programme was over after National Anthem.
