CDE PROGRAMME On Conventional Implants vs. Basal Implants
The Department of Periodontics and Implantology, Vivekananda Dental College for Women has successfully conducted a Continuing Dental Education program on “Conventional Implants vs. Basal Implants” on 24th October 2019 at the college auditorium, this program was aimed to upgrade the knowledge of dentists about the implants, this academic event was scheduled for 6 hours and accredited with 6 credit points by our Tamil Nadu Dental Council with approval no 357/19. Around 190 delegates participated in this program.
The program began with the formal inaugural function at 9:15 am. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Elanchezhiyan and anchoring was given by Dr. Aarathi. & Dr. Dharshana and the guest speakers were introduced by Dr.K.Vennila.

Dr Selvakumar Jayaraman started with first session of the lecture on the topic conventional vs. basal implants.
He started the topic with the basics of the implants including the parts of an implant, history, he elaborated on ossiointegration and other tissue integration at the implant surface, types of implants, followed by design of implants, he emphasized more about implant abutment interface then he went on with the implant biomaterials , he elaborated each and every material and their physical properties in detail, among the implant materials he specified more about the titanium and its various properties followed by surface coating of implants and its additive and subtractive methods, the first session of lecture ended with the tea break, at 10.30 am second session of lecture started with the selection of implants, various diagnostic techniques, surgical techniques and its indications, he briefed on the sinus lift procedures, he concluded his lecture by elaborating the basal implants and its types, in his concluding remarks he stressed on difference between conventional and basal implants, healing after implant placement.
The next session commenced after the guest speaker lecture that was between 11:30 am 12:30 pm. The speaker Dr.S. Elanchezhiyan who delivered the lecture on the topic “Peri-Implantitis” and he started with the introduction to the basic structures around the tooth and implant, he elaborated on the causes of Peri-Implantitis and its types, and he concluded his topic by emphasizing on the management of patients with Peri-Implantitis.
The afternoon session started after lunch break at 1.30pm, the session started with the hands on, basic implant kit demonstration was done by Mr Prakash which was followed by the demonstration of implant placements by Dr.S. Elanchezhiyan

Minutes on ENLIGHTMENT 2019 - One day CDE program
Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme ENLIGHTMENT 2019 on 13th October 2019 in the College Auditorium. This program was organised for specialists in orthodontics. The orthodontist deals with malocclusion with complexity such as cleft lip and palate,this program was designed to update postgraduates, faculties and orthodontic practioners to enable them to use CBCT as an adjunct diagnostic tool and to update themselves on the latest treatment modalities used for cleft lip and palate management. Tamilnadu State Dental Council accredited this academic event with 4 credit points. (TNDC approval no:363/19). 43 participants which included staffs and students from various colleges took part in this full day program.
The program commenced with the Tamilthaivazhthu and lighting of kuthuvizhaku by The Dean, GuestSpeakers and Head of Department at 9:30 am.

Dr. K.R. Ramesh Kumar MDS., Reader, Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics introduced the Guest Speaker Professor Dr.DhivakarSelvaraj MDS., Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics.
The session 1 was on “Cleft lip and palate – A journey for beginners”, which dealt with the multidisciplinary approach likenasoalveolar moulding, alveolar bone grafting and orthodontic management in treating cleft patients. This session ended with discussion and queries were cleared by the Guest Speaker.
Prof.Dr. B.K. Raj Kumar MDS., Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics introduced the Guest Speaker Prof.Dr. Sunil Sunny MDS., HOD - Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, VinayakaMissonSankarachariya Dental College.
The session 2 was on “CBCT and its application in orthodontics” which focussed on the effectiveness of 3D image over 2D image & conventional CT. His lecture emphasized on 3D reconstruction software and its advantages & applications in orthodontics.
Post-lunch session 3 was on e-Posters and Paper presentation. About 18 e-posters & 7 papers were present by postgraduate students of seven different dental colleges around Tamilnadu and prize distribution was given for first, second & third best paper and e-posters. Later certificates were distributed to the participants.
The academic event ended with statement of gratitude by Prof.Dr.Syed Khalid Altaf MDS., Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics ended with high tea.This programmeenlightened and upgraded the knowledge of the postgraduate students, staffs and practitioners.
Minutes Of Meeting On Code Programme-Dentistry - Our Business
Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has successfully conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme of lecture series on “Dentistry – Our Business” on 24 September 2019 at the college auditorium. The programme was conducted to upgrade the knowledge on the practice management for young dentist. This academic event was scheduled for 6 hours and accredited with 6 credit points by our Tamil Nadu Dental Council with approval no 357/19. Around 350 delegates participated in this program.
The program began with the formal inaugural function at 9:00 am. The welcome address was delivered by Dr.V.Mahesh Mathian and anchoring was given by Dr. Sharon Maria. E and the guest speakers were introduced by Dr.E.K.Menaka.
The first session of the lecture series was between 9:00 am -11:00 am. The speaker was Dr. Sharath Asokan who delivered the topic on “DENTISTRY - OUR BUSINESS“. He emphasized on the practice management for young dentists.
The second session of the lecture series was between 11:15 am -12:30 pm. The speaker was Dr. Mahesh Mathian who delivered the topic on “ESTHETIC CROWNS FOR PRIMARY ANTERIORS”. This session enlightened our knowledge on various esthetic restorative procedures.
The third session was commenced after the lunch break and the lecture was between 1:00 pm -2:30 pm. The speaker was Dr. Gawthaman who delivered on the topic “CLINICAL PRACTICE MANAGEMENT IN PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY” and he shared his experience and stressed the management of pediatric patient for carrying out a successful practice.
The fourth session of the lecture series was between 4:00 pm -4:30 pm. The speaker was Dr.M.MANOHARAN who delivered on “PRE AND POST MANAGEMENT OF CHILD PATIENT UNDERGOING TREATMENT IN GA”. He explained in detail about management of pediatric patient before and after surgery under GA.
Finally the CDE programmme was concluded with felicitation of the speakers by the Dr.N.Balan, Principal of VDCW and with national anthem.
Minutes Of Meeting On Cde Programme-Exodontia Demystified
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on"EXODONTIA DEMYSTIFIED” on 14th June 2019 at Vivekanandha Dental College for Women. The programme was conducted to create awareness on the complications and difficulties during extraction of teeth among the Post graduates and Undergraduate students and Dental practitioners. This academic event was accredited with 6 Credit points by the prestigious Tamil Nadu State Dental Council. Around 205 delegates including Faculties, Postgraduates and Undergraduates participated in this Programme.
The programme has begun with registration and formal Inaugural function at 8.30am. The Principal Dr. N.BALAN., M.D.S., presided over the function. The prayer song was by our intern Jennifer Monish and followed with lighting the lamp. The welcome address was given by Dr. T. Kavin., M.D.S., Head of Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery. Followed with the inaugural address Dr.S.Nagalakshmi., M.D.S., who gave the introduction and welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr.P.Subramaniam., M.D.S., and felicitation was done.

The session was dismissed for tea break and resumed back at 11.50am for the third session of the day. Our guest speaker Dr.P. Subramaniam., M.D.S., presented on the topic “Case scenarios and Clinical problems solving in Oral Surgery” where he provided a clear insight to the cases and solutions. The fourth session was continued by Dr.T.Kavin., M.D.S., at 1.00pm on the topic “Management of post extraction complications” where various complications and their management were discussed.
Post-lunch session
The session resumed at 3.00pm with the fifth session on the topic Basal implants and future of Implantology by the guest speaker again Dr.P. Subramaniam., M.D.S., where he spoke about various implants and the clear view and application of basal implants. The 6th session of the day started at 4.00pm by Dr.P.Tamil Thangam., M.D.S., on the topic “Pathological considerations in exodontia”.she stressed about various pathological conditions and considerations in exodontia. This was followed by a Tea break and the final session was question and answers with Dr.T.Kavin., M.D.S.,.
Finally, the CDE was concluded with the distribution of the Certificates and Vote of thanks which was proposed by Dr. R. Narendar., M.D.S., & the CDE programme concluded with National Anthem.
Minutes of Cde & Hands - On Program - “Mastering Endodontic Technology – Endo(m.e.t.)”
The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women had conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on “MASTERING ENDODONTIC TECHNOLOGY – ENDO(M.E.T)” on 16th April 2019 at the College Auditorium. This program was aimed to empower the CRRI’s, Postgraduates and Faculty to learn, upgrade and expertise in Endodontic practice. This academic event was awarded 6 Credit points by the centre for CDE Accreditation Tamil Nadu Dental Council (TNDC Approval No:160/19). Around 200 delegates including Faculty, Postgraduates and Undergraduates participated in this programme.
The program commenced with the prayer song and lighting of Kuthuvilakku by the Faculty members and Post graduates of our department. Dr.Vaiyapuri Ravi, Professor & Head, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, welcomed the entire gathering and addressed the Guest speaker Dr. K.J Nanda Kishore, Professor, RajaRajeshwari Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore. followed by introduction of the speaker to the forum by, Dr.J.Saravana Priyan, Reader, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, and the speaker was felicitated by our Principal, Dr.N.Balan.
n the first session guest speaker lectured on ‘’REGENERATIVE Ni - Ti Files.’’ Followed by the first session the gathering had breaked for the refreshment. In the second session guest speaker focussed on “RUBBER DAM ISOLATION”. The session ended with various queries from the delegates which were cleared by him, followed by the lunch break.
Post-lunch session
The post-lunch session was “Hands - On Programme” on ROTARY ENDODONTICS. The participants were provided with individual ENDODONTIC STARTER KIT, including the entire armamentarium for the root canal treatment procedure.
The speaker, gave a very detailed explanation about the modern rotary endodontic techniques and demonstrated the procedures. After the demonstration the participants practiced the same in the acrylic block. At the end the paricipants came up with various queries related to their clinical scenario which were cleared by the speaker.
The academic event ended with statement of gratitude by Dr. M.Chittrarasu, Senior Lecturer, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, followed by the National Anthem. The program was valuable to the students and faculty members which gave a keen knowledge on Mastering Endodontic Technology. Certificates were distributed to the participants of the CDE programme.

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on “Dental Practice Management” on 21st March 2019 at the College Auditorium. This program was aimed to empower practitioners, CRRI, Postgraduates and staffs to learn and expertise in dental practice. This academic event was awarded 5 Credit points by the centre for CDE Accreditation Tamil Nadu Dental Council (TNDC). Around 210 delegates including Faculties, Postgraduates,Undergraduates and private practitioners participated in this programme
The program commenced with a prayer song and lighting of ‘ kuthu vilakku ’ by the Guest speaker, Principal, Vice-Principal, Head of the Department and Faculty members of our department by 9am and followed by the speaker was felicitated by the Principal Dr.N.Balan.
Morning session
The morning session was focused on ‘ Ethical & Legal Issues in Dentistry ’. The speech was delivered by Dr.Girish R Shavi. The session ended with various queries cleared by him followed by the tea break It was followed by Dr.Shankar on “ Essentials of setting Up A Dental Clinic ”. He discussed the essential requirements related to setting up a clinic.
Post-lunch session
The post-lunch session was by Professor. Dr. KrishnaRaj Ganesh Narayanan on “Business in Dentistry”. The participants came up with various queries related to their clinical scenario which was explained by the speaker. The program was continued by the Guest speaker on “Tips in Practice Management”.
The academic event ended with statement of gratitude followed by National Anthem. The program was valuable to the students and practitioners which cleared the path for upgrading their dental practice. Certificates were distributed to the participants of the CDE programme.
CDE program on “Dental Pixel – 2”
Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics Minutes on DENTA PIXEL2- One day CDE program & Hands-on workshop on Digital Dental Photography
Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics of Vivekanadha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education workshop programme on DENTA PIXEL 2- Digital Dental Photography on this 26th February 2019 in the College Auditorium. Denta Pixel 2 programmeis an upgradation of previous CDE program conducted in our department. This programme was aimed to empower practitioners, CRRI, postgraduates and staff of various colleges to learn and expertise in taking a good clinical photograph, which is an essential diagnostic aid. Tamilnadu State Dental Council accredited this academic event with 6 credit points for 6 hrs of this program (TNDC approval no: 68/19). 189 participants which included practitioners, staff and students from various colleges took part in the morning session of this program and 74 delegates for both lecture and hands-on workshop(6hrs).
The program commenced with a prayer song and lighting of kuthuvizhaku by Guest Speaker and various Head of Department at 9 am.

Morning session
The morning session focused on understanding of basics about camera, difference in digital SLR, bridge camera, Snap shot camera. The academic session also dealt with benefits and demerits of Digital SLR camera, importance of dental Photography, and accessories needed to take intraoral and extraoral views in dental photograph. The morning sessions ended with a discussion, where various queries were cleared by the Guest Speaker.
Post- lunch session
The Post- lunch session which was a demo and hands-on workshop, in which demo was given in taking extraoral, intraoral photographs and also storage of images, how to overcome medico-legal issues by maintaining photographic records of patients. The participants took dental photographs and discussed regarding their mistakes and queries in this session.
The program was in fact valuable to the students and the postgraduates which cleared a path for upgrading their photography skills. Certificates were distributed to the participants of the CDE programme.
Minutes of the CDE program on “Essentials of Dental Practice”
Department of Oral Pathology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women in association with Indian Academy of Dental Specialists, Erode, conducted one day Continuing Dental Education programme on “ Essentials of Dental Practice ” on 15th February 2019 at the College Auditorium. The programme wasapproved for 6 CDE points by Tamil Nadu Dental Council with approval No.38/19.
Summary of Sessions
The program commenced with prayer song and lighting of ‘kuthu vilakku’, seeking the almighty’s guidance throughout this enlightening occasion.
The senior faculties of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women and the senior members of the Indian Academy of Dental Specialists, felicitated the guest speakers.

The second topic of the day was delivered by Dr. H. Tamizhchelvan, MDS, Professor, Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Sri Ramachandra Dental College & Hospital, Chennai on“Clinical Establishment Act : An Update”.
Dr. Siva Senthilkumar MBBS, MD, Consultant Anaesthetist, Erode has delivered the third lecture on “Interventional Pain Management for Oro-facial Pain”.

The sixth and final topic of the day “CDE Regulations 2018: An Overview” was delivered by Dr. T. Maheswaran MDS, MBA, Professor, Department of Oral Pathology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women.
This CDE program was attended by around 190 dentists and 100 interns from the nearby dental institutions. Dr. K. Balu, Professor and Head, Department of Prosthodontics delivered the vote of thanks and then the program was concluded with national anthem.
CDE program on “Fixed partial dentures-A Myth and Reality between Dentist, Technician and Patient”
Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme of Seminar on FIXED PARTIAL DENTURES- A MYTH AND REALITY BETWEEN DENTIST, TECHNICIAN AND PATIENT”on 23rd January 2019 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enrich the knowledge on Prosthodontics which is the area of Dentistry pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, aesthetics and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing teeth, deficient teeth and/or compromised maxilla facial tissues using biocompatible substitutes. This academic event was scheduled for 6 hours and accredited with 10 Credit points by our esteemed Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University. Around 250 delegates were participated in this Programme.
The programme was started with the formal Inaugural function at 10.00 am. The Welcome address was delivered by Dr.Devaki V.
Summary of Sessions
The first session of the lecture series was in between 10.30am -11.30 am, the speaker was Dr. Balu MDS.,PGDHM HOD and Professor, Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge who delivered the topic on “Material Science in FPD”. He mentioned about the materials available for temporary and permanent restorations. He also specified about the recent advancements in the material aspect, composition advantages and disadvantages of the materials.

The second session of the lecture series was given by Dr.P.Manimaran MDS, who delivered speech on “Fixed Partial Dentures- a myth and reality between dentist, technician and Patient” between 11.30 am-12.30 pm. He highlighted on the knowledge of the various types of FPD and the period of longevity of a fixed partial denture that has always been a myth between the dentist, technician and the patient. The lecture mainly focused on the essential steps in identifying the failures and steps to alleviate them, which will aid in longevity of Fixed Partial Dentures.

The post-lunch session was by Dr.Devaki V who delivered her topic on “Full Mouth Rehabilitation made easy with FPD” between 1.30 pm -2.30 pm. This presentation highlighted on the ideal approach for full mouth rehabilitation. Also there was a special mention on the problems encountered after cementation of fixed prosthesis and explanation on the methods to alleviate those problems commonly encountered.
