Student’s Talent Show
A talent show was organized for the first year fresher batch (2021-22) of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women on 06.02.2021 at the college auditorium. The programme was conducted to give an opportunity for their comfort zone and also to build their confidence with creativity to their levels. It was accompanied with so many colourful events and programmes like exhilarating singing,classical dance,semi classical dance,western dance,reciting a poem,video editing and many more. Thus,making it a soulful day.
The programme started at 10:00 am with student comperes Ms.Madhumitha Sri, Ms.Sareeka, Ms.Bhagya Lakshmi and Ms.Anujaya with the warm welcome to all the dignitaries and the juries presented in the function. The programme was started with formal prayer song by Ms. Shruthi of I BDS. This was followed with a welcome speech by Ms.Architha.
Event started with a solo classical dance performance by Ms.S.R. Dharshini.
Followed by Mr.B.Asmitha Shree and Ms.B.Madhumitha to converse about “turning a problem into an opportunity”.
After this event was a group song, which was performed by Ms.S.Sindhiya, Ms.C.Anujaya, Ms.R.Sareeka, Ms.J.Swaroopa, Ms.S.R.Dharshini, Ms.M.S.Gevika, Ms.M.Naveena, Ms.SameehaFarahaaz, Ms.G.Banumathi, Ms.R.Ashika, Ms.S.Rahmadul Reshma and Ms.Noor Reshmi.R
Then next event was by Ms.R.Bhagyalakshmi to deliver a speech on “Great Swami Vivekanandha” followed by Ms.C.Anujaya and Ms. Ambreen to converse about “Power of women” & “Your limitation -its only your imagination”,then motivational speech by Ms. G.R.Janani and followed by Ms.S.R.Dharshini who gave speech on “Origin of Dental science”.
Next was a graceful and an elegant dance performance by Ms.R. Sareeka and Ms.S.Deepika who performed “kathak and semiclassical”, followed with a group dance by Ms.Padaiyamma and Ms.Janshi.
The next event was an alluring western dance performance by Ms.R.Kavya. The dance performance were very much exciting to watch.
Ms. F.Fameedha, who recited a poem on “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and her speech make everyone to rebel against injustice.
Finally,the vote of thanks proposed by Ms.Faheema and the event ended up with National Anthem.
Minutes for CDE Programme
The CDE programme was conducted by the Department of Periodontology. The programmewas inaugurated at 8:15am.The welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Elanchezhian MDS at 8:30 am. The guest speaker was introduced by Dr.Vennila MDS at 8: 45am.The sessionstarted with our guest speaker Dr. Johnson Raja James MDS,Vice principal and Head of Department of Periodontology, Rajas dental college delivered the guest lecture on “Periodontal perspectives in immediate implant placement” which lasted till 11 am.After a tea break the second session was continued from 11:30am to 1pm.
After lunch break, next lecture was delivered by Dr.S.Elanchezhian MDS on “Implant Placement Protocols” at 2pm and lasted for an hour. The next speaker Dr. Rajkumar Daniel MDS., who delivered his lecture on“Implant Materials” from 3pm-4pm. The programme is concluded with vote of thanks that was delivered by Dr. Gayathri Priyadharshini MDS
APPLICATIONS OF CBCT IN DENTISTRY
Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on “APPLICATIONS OF CBCT IN DENTISTRY” on 16th November 2021 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on CBCT, an advanced radiographic Imaging technology which is specifically used by dentist in their practice. This academic event was scheduled for 8 hours and accredited with 6 Credit points by our esteemed Tamilnadu Dental Council with 150 delegates participated in this Programme.
The programme began with the formal Inaugural function at 08.45 am . The Welcome address was delivered by Dr. D. Pavithra and the Inaugural address was given by Dr. A. Sheela
Summary of Session
The first session of the lecture series was between 09.00am -10.00 am, the speaker was Dr. Sudhaa Mani .M ,MDS., who delivered the topic on “Basic Principles Of CBCT”. She gave brief description of CBCT and clinical application of the same. She delivers a brief information about CBCT anatomy of maxillofacial region .

The second session of lecture series was Dr. S. Yasmeen Ahamed MDS, who delivered his topic on “ How to Interpet a CBCT ” between 10.00 am-11.00 am. He highlighted about the machine in which the imaging has been taken and also explains when to prescribe it, in which condition they should prefers CBCT and how the machine operates, how the image is made and basic interpretation of CBCT, normal anatomical structures, radiographic appearance of various pathologies and he emphasized on implant placement guided by CBCT.
The third session of lecture series was Dr. A. Cicilia subbulakshmi MDS, who delivered topic on “Applications of CBCT in Dentistry ” between 11.15 am-12.30 pm. she highlighted on various fields of CBCT dentistry .
The post-lunch session was hands-on workshop from 1.00 pm – 4.30 pm by .The workshop focused on the usage of software to view the CBCT images, tools in CBCT, construction of images in multiple planes, visual implant placements and interpretation of images.
The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Babu Susai Raj and the CDE programme was concluded with certificate of appreciations of the guest speakers and with national anthem.

Ceramics – Made Easy
Department ofProsthodontics Crown and Bridge, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on “CERAMICS – MADE EASY” on 29th October 2021 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on ceramics, an advanced technology which is specifically used by dentist in their practice.
This academic event was scheduled for 8 hours and accredited with 6 Credit points by our esteemed TamilnaduDental Council with 150 delegates participated in this Programme.

The post-lunch sessionfrom 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm. The CDE program focused on the laboratory procedure, recent advances, and new concepts in ceramics.
The second session of lecture series was Dr.P. ARUN KUMAR MDS, who delivered his topic on“LABORATORY WORK AUTHORIZATION” between1.30pm – 2.45pm. He highlighted about the laboratory procedurs.
The third session of the lecture series was between 2.45 pm – 4.00pm, the speaker was Dr.V. Devaki, MDS., who delivered the topic on“FUTURE TRENDS & CONCEPTS IN DENTAL CERAMICS”She gave brief description of ceramics and clinical application of the same. She delivers a briefinformation about ceramics.

Comprehensive Trauma Life Support
Department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on 18.11.2021 at our college campus. This programme was organised with the concept of enhancing basic knowledge about emergency procedures to Dental Surgeon
The Registration starts at 8.45 am and welcome address was given by Dr.Dhivyaa.A,MDS, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women.
The Lecture session was conducted between 9.00am to 12.30 pm by guest lecturers.

Interceptive Orthodontics
Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on “Interceptive Orthodontics” on 23rd November 2021 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on the various interceptive orthodontic procedures that are being done or practiced in our field. This academic event was scheduled for 8 hours and accredited with 6 Credit points by our esteemed Tamilnadu Dental Council with 150 delegates participated in this Programme.

Summary of SessionsThe first session of the lecture series was between 09.00 am -10.00 am, the speaker was Dr. Mahesh Mathian, MDS., Head of the Department, who delivered the lecture on the topic “Serial Extraction”. He gave brief description of Serial extractions and the various modifications of the same. He also elaborated on the current clinical scenario of serial extraction.
The second session of lecture series was between 10.00 am-11.00 am, the speaker of this session was Dr. Manoharan M, MDS, Professor. He delivered the lecture on the topic “Habits”. He highlighted about the various mal-habits prevalent in the dental scenario. The various malocclusion associated with the various oral habits.
The third session of lecture series was Dr. Badri Thiruvenkatachari MDS, PhD., who delivered topic on “Interceptive Orthodontics” between 11.15 am-1.30 pm. He highlighted the various methods and clinical application of interceptive orthodontics. The various practices of Interceptive orthodontics were explained in detail with proper description and supporting clinical evidence.
The post-lunch session was hands-on workshop from 1.00 pm – 4.30 pm by .The workshop focused on the bite registration process. This workshop highlighted the bite registration process which is very important during the myofunctional appliance impression procedure

Myofunctional and Orthopedic Appliances
Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education Progamme on “Myofunctional and Orthopedic Appliances” on the 30th November 2021 at the college auditorium. This academic program was accredited with 6 CDE credit points by our Tamil Nadu State Dental Council. Around 202 delegates from various colleges took part in this event.
The programme began invoking the blessings of the Almighty, our soul inspirer at 9 am on Tuesday 30th November 2021.
The Welcome address for the academic event was delivered by Dr. S.Nagalakshmi M.D.S., Professor and Head , Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics.
The First session was on the Basic principles of functional and orthopedic appliances which was orated by Dr. S.Nagalakshmi M.D.S., Professor and Head, Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, She spoke elaborately on the design & principle by which the functional and orthopedic appliances act. She spoke on the problem based treatment planning & appliance design. It was followed by a question & answer session in which the participants actively raised their doubts & questions and clarifications were given for the same.
The second session was delivered by Dr. B.K. Rajkumar M.D.S., Professor, Department of Orthodontics.VDCW on the topic of Modus operandi and case selection for functional & orthopedic appliances. He explained in detail, the various appliances available & how to select the appliance for each case. It followed by a question and answer session where the participants actively participated and cleared their doubts & queries on Modus operandi and selection of cases.
The Third speaker was Dr.V.Sudhakar M.D.S., Professor, Department of Orthodontics on topic of Myofunctional and orthopedic appliances & case series. He showed a series of cases treated with various functional & orthopedic appliances.
The enlightening morning session ended with the question & answer session followed by Lunch Break.
The afternoon session was the demonstration and hands on workshop of Myofunctional and orthopedic appliances conducted in the Department of Orthodontics , VDCW. The delegates were divided into 10 batches and participated in the session.
The programme was an eye opener and brain kindler to the undergraduates and the postgraduates which paved way for upbringing their understanding and skills in handling and treating the patients. The CDE program on Myofunctional and orthopedic appliances received a valuable feedback from the delegates and enthusiastic participation of students from various colleges. Certificates were issued to the participants of the CDE programme.
The session was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr.Vinoth S , Professor, Department of Orthodontics followed by the National Anthem.
Moisture Control- Let’s Spill Out
Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on “MOISTURE CONTROL- Let’s Spill Out!”on 8th December 2021 at the College Auditorium via virtual mode. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on research that are being done in our field. This academic event was scheduled for 8 hours and accredited with 6 Credit points by our esteemed Tamilnadu Dental Council with 177 delegates participated in this Programme.

The third session of lecture series was between 11.15 AM-12.30 AM. Dr. L. Vijay Amirtharaj, MDS., who delivered the lecture on the topic “MOISTURE CONTROL-Let’s Spill Out!”. He gave brief description about moisture control and its clinical implications.

Department of Public Health Dentistry, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on “FUNDAMENTALS IN RESEARCH” on 10th December 2021 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on research that are being done in our field. He gave brief description of research and how to plan and conduct research. It developed research thinking skills and how to make synthesis from available research literatures.
The second session of lecture series was between 11.00 am - 12.30 pm, the speaker of this session was Dr. Girish R Shavi, MDS, Professor & HOD. He delivered the lecture on the topic “Ethics in research”. He highlighted about basic rules of research ethics and how one can successfully integrate research into clinical practice.

The third session of lecture series was Dr. G. Lalithambigai MDS, who delivered topic on “Overview on Research Design” between 1.30 pm-3.00 pm. She highlighted the need for research design in practice and various quantitative research designs in epidemiological, experimental and animal studies. And also emphasized the advantages and disadvantages along with the universal guidelines that should be followed.
The fourth session of lecture series was Dr. J. John Smith MDS, who delivered topic on “Research Protocol Writing” between 3.00 pm - 4.00 pm. He highlighted on how to conduct research according to a plan and demonstrated the guidelines for conducting research. He also developed a research protocol steps to perform an appropriate study and to obtain reliable results.

Anaesthesia In Dentistry
Department of General Medicine and General Surgery, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on “ANAESTHESIA IN DENTISTRY” on 15thDecember 2021 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on the various techniques of local and general anaesthesia that are being used in our field. This academic event was scheduled for 8 hours and accredited with 6 Credit points by our esteemed Tamil Nadu Dental Council with 186 delegates participating in this Programme.

Summary of Sessions
The first session of the lecture series was between 09.30 am -10.30 am, the speaker was Dr. S. Arulraja MSc.,PhD, Reader cum HOD of Pharmacology who delivered the lecture on the topic “Pharmacological aspects of anaesthesia”. He gave a brief description of the composition and mechanism of action of anaesthesia along with its benefits and adverse effects. It developed a better understanding and laid a defined outline for the lecture series.
The second session of lecture series was between 10.45 am – 11.45 am, the speaker of this session was Dr. K. Jayaprakash MBBS DNB, HOD, Department of Anaesthesiology, VMCH delivered the lecture on the topic “General anaesthesia in dentistry”. He highlighted about basic rules of general anaesthesia and how onecan successfully integrate a few of these techniques into clinical practice.

The third session of lecture series was Dr. R.J. Aravind, MDS, Professor, Department of OMFS who delivered a lecture on “Maxillary injection techniques” between 1.00 pm-1.40 pm. He highlighted the various maxillary injection techniques while also elaborating on the importance of developing clinical skills to do them properly and their indications.
The fourthsession of lecture series was Dr. S.P. Indrakumar MDS, Senior lecturer, Department of OMFS who delivered a lecture on “Mandibular injection techniques” between 1.40 pm - 2.20 pm. He highlighted on how to do various mandibular injection techniques along with videos to enhance the experience for the audience.
The fifthsession of lecture series was delivered by Dr. R. Narendar MDS, Reader, Department of OMFS on “Complications of local anaesthesia and its management” between 2.20 pm - 3.00 pm. He highlighted on various complications of local anaesthesia techniques along with how clinicians can manage such complications in their own clinical practice.
The post- tea session
The finalsession of lecture series was delivered by Dr. Gawthaman M., MDS, Reader, Department of Pedodontics on “Anaesthesia in pediatric dentistry” between 3.30 pm – 4.15 pm. He elaborated on the management of pain for pediatric patients and how they can be managed in clinics. He spoke of considerations a clinician has to make to deliver anaesthesia to a paediatric patient.
The vote of thanks was given by Dr. G. Geetha, MBBS, and the CDE programmewas concluded with awarding the certificate of appreciations to the guest speakers and followed by the National Anthem.

Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programmeon “PHYBIAN - COVID” on17thDecember 2021at the College Auditoriumvia virtual mode. The programmewas conducted to provide information about Basic Medical Science oriented to COVID which has a serious public health concern today. Budding Dentists are need to know the complications. This programmewas aimed at enriching awareness and its importance among practicing dentists, dental surgeons, hygienists and students.

The first session of the CDE programmewas in between 10.00AM -11.00 AM, the speaker was Dr. T. Siva., Ph.D.,Asst. Professor, Department of Anatomy, Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Researchwho delivered his lecture on “Anatomical knowledge of Segmental Lung Involvementin COVID-19”. He gave brief description about anatomical aspects of COVID and Scoring methods of CT and its interpretations in clinicals.
The second speaker of the day wasDr. Dheepthi Jayamurali.,Ph.D.,Asst Professor, Department of Physiology,Dr. ALMPGIBMS, UNOM, Chennai who delivered her lecture on “A Walk Through the Pages of Stress Physiology”. Shementioned the Physiological basis of stress & it impact during COVID. She stressed about central lifestyle risk factor and globally emerging stress induced physiological issues in detail.
Dr. K. M. Tullanithi Ph.D., Professor & HOD of Biochemistry introduced our guest speakerThis was followed by Dr. Priya K Dhas. Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, VMKV Medical College & Hospital, Salemwho delivered her lecture on “Genomics –DNA Sequencing”. She started the session by giving adetailed lecture on organism’s genes which is also called as genome.She explained briefly about complete human genome and She also stressed about DNA sequencing methods, and bioinformatics to sequence, assembleand analyze the structure & function of COVID 19.She concluded her session by stressing the role ofGenomics researchon COVID and Omicron variant genome evolution & phylogenetics.

Pathology Stories Unfolded
Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, has organized a Continuing Dental Education program entitled “PATHOLOGY STORIES UNFOLDED” on 20th December 2021. This program was a package of histopathological stories presented with clinical and histopathological correlation. The whole CDE program was conducted for 8 hours with 6 credit points were given by our Tamil Nadu Dental Council and around 120 participants have attended the program.
The program began at 8:30 am with registration of the participants, prayer song and lighting of lamp. The program was hosted by postgraduate student Dr. T Semporjothi.
Welcome address was given by Dr. V. Ilayaraja, MDS, Professor, Vivekanandha Dental College for women at 8: 45 to 8: 50 am and the guest speaker was introduced by Dr. T. Maheswaran, MDS, Professor, Vivekanandha Dental College for women.
Summary of Sessions
Our guest lecturer, Dr. NS. Priya, MDS, Professor, VS Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore, has given the first lecture on topic “Pathology stories unfolded” between 9 am to 10:30 am. She gave explanation on clinical and histopathological features of ulcer, impacted tooth, parotid swelling, smooth muscle cell, brittle bone, clear cell and black fungus. Her explanation gave minute details on various features that benefitted the participants in diagnosis and treatment planning.
The second lecture of the session was given by Dr. V. Ilayaraja, MDS, Professor, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, Tiruchengode, between 10:30 to 11:30 am on Importance of Oral Pathology in Clinical practice. His guest lecture have thrown light on the importance of oral pathology to the common practitioners and other specialty faculties.
Following second lecture there was a tea break between 11:30 to 11:45 am.
The third lecture was presented by Dr. T. Maheswaran, MDS, Professor, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, Tiruchengode, between 11:45 to 12: 45 pm on Oral cytology. The importance of cytology on clinical practice was re-emphasized and the cytological abnormalities in various pathologies were discussed.
The lunch break was between 12:45 to 1:45 pm.
The fourth session after lunch was given by Dr. T. R. Yoithap Prabhunath, MDS, Reader, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, Tiruchengode, between 1:30 to 2:30 pm on Immunohistochemistry – An overview. The Immunohistochemical techniques and their application in prompt diagnosis of various undifferentiated tumors were elaborated.
The final presentation of the program was on “Oral Biopsy in dentistry” and given by Dr. J. Dinesh Shankar, MDS, Reader, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, Tiruchengode, between 2:30 to 3:30 pm. The procedure of various types of biopsy, their techniques, applications in dentistry was an eye opener to the participants.
Our beloved Professor and Head of the Department Dr. N. Ganapathy, MDS, have awarded the certificate of appreciation to the guest speaker. The certificate for the presenter and a sample certificate for the participants are attached below.
Dr. M. Saranya, MDS, Senior Lecture, Department of Oral pathology and Microbiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, Tiruchengode, have given vote of thanks. The program ended by National Anthem after capturing an online group photograph.
