BASIC LIFE SUPPORT PROGRAM

Basic Life Support program was organized to give a hands-on and practical experience for dealing with medical emergency in Vivekanandha Dental College for Women on 12th to 14th December 2023 at Lecture Hall IV. Faculty members and Post Graduates were participated in the program.

Field Visit

WHITE COAT CEREMONY

The white coat ceremony for I year BDS (2023-2024 Batch) students of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women was organized on 20.10.2023 from 10.00am to 12.30pm. The program commenced with the gathering of I year BDS students and the parents were received with a warm welcome at Vivekanandha Auditorium. The program was started with Tamil Thai Vazuthu followed by ceremonial lighting of Kuthu Vilakku graced by our chief guest “Vidhya Ratna”, Prof Dr.M.Karunanithi, B.Pharm., M.S., Ph.D., D.Litt., Chairman & Secretary of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions and Hospitals and other dignitaries.

The Principal Dr.S.Nagalakshmi, M.D.S., welcomed the gathering. The white coat was distributed to the students by our Honorable Chairman and Secretary. The parents adorned their children with the white coat, and the oath of white coat ceremony and oath was undertaken by the students.

Respected Director - Vivekanandha Dental & Paramedical Institutions., Dr. (Capt). S. Gokulanathan, B.Sc., M.D.S., delivered a speech about discipline and decorum of our college. Dr.S.Kuppusamy, Executive Director, Vivekanandha Educational Institutions, motivated the students to follow ABCD (A-Attitude, B- Behaviour, C-Communication & D - dedication) in their profession.

“Vidhya Ratna”, Prof Dr.M.Karunanithi, during the presidential address briefed about the history of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women and appreciated students etiquette and attire. He advised the students to select good friends for success and gave guidance to the students, when unsure to consult mentor for help.

Dr.Dinesh Shankar, Associate Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial pathology & oral Microbiology extended heartfelt gratitude by presenting the vote of thanks. The function was concluded with National Anthem.

WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION

Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women organized Children’s day celebration on the account of “World Children’s Day” on 20.11.2023. The children actively participated in all the events conducted by our department. A Quiz program “GUESS WHO” was conducted followed by “COLOURING” competition and “FROG RACE”. Intermittently ORIGAMI of Fish, Bird and Butterfly was taught and we made them to replicate the same. The coloring competition was judged by Dr. Sudha Mani, Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. Gifts were awarded to the children by our beloved principal, Dr. Nagalakshmi.

Graduation Ceremony

The 11th graduation ceremony was held on Friday 17.11.2023 at 10 am at Vivekanandha Dental College for Women, Tiruchengode. Prof. Dr. M. Karunanithi, Chairman and Secretary, Vivekanandha Educational Institutions presided over the function. Managing Director Mrs. Krishnaveni Karunanithi inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. Joint Secretary Dr. Sreeraaghanidhi Arthanareeswaran, Medical Director Dr. Prakasam, Executive Director Prof. Dr. S. Kuppuswami, Chief Executives Chokkalingam and Varadharaju, Dental and Paramedical Director Dr. (Captain) Gokulanathan graced the occasion. Prof. Dr. Sudhamani welcomed the gathering. Principal Dr. S. Nagalakshmi introduced the chief guest, Padmasree Prof. Dr. Mahesh Verma, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi. 95 BDS graduates and 40 MDS graduates were given the degree. The parents who attended the ceremony were happy to see their ward's dreams come true. Principals, Heads of Departments and Professors of member colleges of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions participated in this function. Event manager Sritharraja organized the event.

11th International Radiology Day

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education Program titled “From interpretation to visualization in radiology” in commemoration of 11th International Radiology Day on 8th November 2023 at our college auditorium. The guest speaker was Dr. N.Mohan, Retired Associate Dean and Professor, Department of Oral medicine and Radiology, Vinayaka Mission’s Sankarachariyar Dental college, salem. He gave two lectures on the topics “From interpretation to visualization in radiology” & “Clinical correlation in diagnosis”. Post-lunch session a quiz competition was conducted, certificates and medals were given to the winners of poster, essay writing and quiz competitions.

IAOMP Conference

30th National Conference of Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologists was held on 3rd to 5th November 2023 at KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences, Belagavi, Karnataka. 1 faculty and 3 post graduate students participated and presented their scientific study in the event. Our faculty Dr. Yoithap Prabhunath TR, MDS, Ph.D, has won Best Scientific Presentation award. He was also elected as Executive Member for IAOMP office for the year 2023-2024.

Annual day celebration

The 16th Annual Day at Vivekanandha Dental College for Women commenced with the gathering of students and faculty in the resplendent auditorium. This prestigious event saw the ceremonial lighting of the Lamp, graced by distinguished luminaries, including Dr. M. Karunanithi, Chairman and Secretary of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions & Hospitals, Chief Guest Mrs. Karthika Raja, Director-Dental & Paramedical Institutions, Dr. (Capt) S. Gokulanathan, Principal Dr. S. Nagalakshmi, and former Principal Dr. N. Balan.

Dr. M. Sudhaa Mani, extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for the evening. Principal Dr. S. Nagalakshmi, presented an enlightening annual report, emphasizing the outstanding achievements of students and staff. Prof. Dr. S. Kuppuswami, Executive Director of Vivekanandha Educational Institutions, enriched the event with valuable insights, thus addressing the gathering. Mrs. Karthikaraja, MSc., M.A., delivered an inspirational speech illuminating the occasion.

"Vidhya Rathna," Prof. Dr. M. Karunanithi, graced the event with his presidential address, and Dr. (Capt). S. Gokulanathan, shared sentiments, while recognizing excellence. We further had prize distribution to the students and staffs for the Academic, Cultural and Sports events held in the college. Dr. K. Balu, extended heartfelt gratitude by presenting the Vote of Thanks. The event concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a splendid display of cultural performances, embodying unity and celebration.

Symposium on Fundamentals of Dental Implants

Department of Prosthodontics and crown & bridge, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted an Implant Dentistry continuum CDE Programme- “FUNDAMENTALS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS” on 7th & 8th September 2023 at our College Auditorium. This academic event was scheduled for 2 days and accredited with 12 Credit points (293/23 – TNDC approval number) by our Tamilnadu Dental Council and 269 delegates (teaching faculties, post graduate students, Interns, final year BDS) participated in this programme.The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. NagaLakshmi, Principal, Vivekanandha Dental College for women.

Dr Balu, MDS, Head of the Department, presented on the topic “Introduction to Dental Implants”.

Dr V Devaki MDS, delivered lecture on the topic “Implant components with micro and macro geometry”.

A quiz competition was also held among the participants. Dr S. Arul Kumar MDS, delivered lecture on topic “Clinico radiographic & model analysis”.

Dr. Sree Varun MDS, delivered lecture on topic “Implant fixture and prosthetic materials”.

Dr S. Suganya MDS, delivered lecture on topic “Treatment planning for various scenario”.

Dr S. Vishnupriya MDS, delivered lecture on topic “Surgical procedures”

Dr R. Ajay MDS, delivered lecture on topic “Loading concepts and protocols in Dental Implants”. Live demonstration of Implant placement on styroform model was performed by him.

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology

National IAOMR PG Convention 2023

Dr. M. Dhivya (2nd Year Post Graduate) and Dr. K. Nehrthika (Ist Year Post Graduate) won Best Paper award in two different scientific sessions in the National IAOMR PG Convention 2023 held at GSL Dental College and Hospital, Rajahmundry on 18th and 19th August 2023.



International Youth Day Celebration 2023

International Youth Day was celebrated on 12th of August 2023 in Vivekanandha Dental College for Women with the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”. This annual occasion serves as a dedicated day of awareness and action, recognized by the United Nations (UN), to address pertinent issues affecting the world’s youth population.

To emphasize the contributions of young people in championing environmental preservation and actively participating in a spectrum of social projects. The celebration started with sapling-planting programme at 8.30am in the hostel premises where all the CRRIs and faculties actively participated and took an oath to encourage people in planting more trees.

At 9:30 am all the under graduate students and faculties, gathered in the college auditorium to acknowledge and honor the inherent qualities of youth.

The gathering was welcomed by Divina,CRRI .She provided an insight about the challenges to be faced as youth and emphasized the role young individuals play as a catalyst of transformation.

At 10 am a tamil speech was given by Jeyasugirdha, CRRI to signify that the youth of today are at the forefront of progress in finding innovative solutions for societal problems , and have to develop passion in addressing global issues and to get reminded of our pivotal role in shaping a more inclusive, equitable future.

Following the speech, a group of CRRIs sang a song to motivate young individuals that they could be more in the war against waste pursue, because it is all in youths power to have a sustainable future.

A power point presentation was given by Maragathavalli, CRRI briefing the theme for this year,”Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”. The importance of a shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climate friendly world was explained and how it is also responsible for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This instilled the crucial role youth play in developing and supporting a resource-efficient society. Group discussion was co ordinated by Dr.Gawthaman and Dr.S.Vinodh regarding the six pillars of green skill development to foster positive change not only for themselves but also for their communities and the rest of the world.

The event ended with a vote of thanks given by Nithiela, CRRI.

Independence day Celebration

Vivekanandha Dental College for Women celebrated the 77th India’s Independence day in a grand manner on 15th August, 2023 in the presence of our honorable Chairman Prof. Dr. M. Karunanidhi, B.Pharm., M.S., Ph.D., D. Litt. The celebration was inaugurated by hoisting the National Flag by our honorable Chairman. As a symbol of freedom and peace, pigeon was set free to fly. Following which, March Past Parade was done by our students. The Independence day speech was addressed by our Chairman emphasizing on the struggles of our freedom fighters and their selfless sacrifice for the freedom of our nation. He advised the students to honor the martyrs by showing patriotism, affection and to serve the country by developing in all aspects.

As a part of the celebration, our college have conducted various CULTURAL & LITERARY EVENTS from 10-08-2023 to15-08-2023 at the College on the theme “Mahakavi Bharathiar and National Freedom Movement” to promote the patriotism, distinctiveness, uniqueness of our culture to our students and to glorify and honour the martyrs of our country who sacrificed their lives to get freedom for India.

Our students actively participated in various competitions such as face painting, poetry writing, essay writing, skit, singing, wealth out of waste. All the participated students were felicitated by Our Director Capt. Dr. S. Gokulanathan, M.D.S and Principal Dr. S. Nagalakshmi, M.D.S. on the celebration day. Later the celebration was concluded with National Anthem.

Cultural Programme

Vivekanandha Dental College for Women is conducting Cultural Events – 2023 from 01-07-2023 at the College auditorium.

Event-1

The culturals was kick started with Mehandi competition having 200 participants participated in the event. It had an open theme in which our students expressed their creativity.


Event-2

The second event conducted was Caricature competition having 100 participants participated in the event. It had an open theme in which our students expressed their thoughts.

Event-3

The third event conducted was soap carving competition having 200 participants participated in the event. It had an open theme in which our students expressed their creativity in the miniature soaps.


Event-4

The fourth event conducted was hair dressing competition having 200 participants participated in the event. It had an open theme in which our students dressedup beautifully like angels.


Event-5

The fifth event conducted was Naalaiya iyakkunar competition having 23 participants participated in the event. It had an open theme in which our students made the short film with wonderful messages.


I BDS ORIENTATION

The undergraduate Orientation Program for first-year BDS (2022-2023 Batch) was conducted on 8th Feb 2022 by the first-year departments of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women in the college seminar hall. Student orientation program plays an important role for students who were transited from school to college. This program aims to teach new students more about the campus, go over the various services and resources available to learners, and provide meet-andgreet opportunities with peers.

Introduction session

The program commenced with a brief outline of the syllabus and curriculum of first-year departments and students’ roles during first-year BDS by Dr. N. Ganapathi MDS., Professor and Head Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology. He explained about carving during laboratory hours and SOP inside the college campus. he also highlighted the research activities and research projects carried out in the department and the examination pattern in both theory and clinical. Finally, he advised the students on strict discipline, punctuality, and maintaining the protocol during clinical practice.

First session- Department of General Anatomy including Embryology and Histology

The first session was delivered by Dr.R.Subbulakshmi, Professor, Department of Anatomy. She briefed the students about the first-year curriculum including the syllabus and university examination pattern. She explained the infrastructure and other facilities of the department in detail with adequate photographs. She discussed the teaching methods like small group teaching, dissection of cadavers, demonstration, the study of dissected specimens, the study of histological slides, osteology, charts, and models for embryology and genetics. Students were instructed about the need for attending all the internal examinations. She also mentioned the record note book maintenance. Finally, the prescribed textbooks and reference textbooks were enlisted to the students, as well as the department and central library facilities were discussed.

Second session- Department of Biochemistry

The next session was delivered by Dr. K. M. Tullanithi, Professor & Head, the Department of Biochemistry. He addressed the first-year undergraduate dental students and showed them in acquaint of learning in Medical subjects (ie) Biochemistry in both Clinical and non-clinical orientated in the dentistry field. This orientated program had given an opportunity to interact with the faculties of first year BDS departments. The students were to judge something with respect to its worth of the college activities like academic, scientific and extracurricular activities of a student.

Third session- Department of Dental Anatomy, Embryology, and Oral Histology

Dr. J. DINESH SHANKAR, MDS, Reader, Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology addressed the newly joined first-year undergraduate dental students and directed them to the way to excel in Pre-Clinical works. He also mentioned that the aim should not be just to get an education but also to become a good professional in the field of dentistry. This program created an opportunity to interact with the faculties of first-year departments holding important portfolios. The students were apprised about the college activities, academic calendar, state-ofthe-art infrastructure that promotes a learning environment, scientific activities, sporting events along with other extracurricular activities that contribute to the overall development of a student.

Fourth session - Department of General Human Physiology

The next session was followed by MS.KAVIPRIYA.S, Senior lecturer, Department of Physiology, gave an orientation lecture about the role of Physiology in Dentistry to I year BDS. She told them a brief history of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women. She also made them aware regarding the facilities available for the students in the institution. Initially she mentioned about the infrastructure of the Department of physiology, Hematology labs and the instruments in the labs in detail with photographs. She also stressed about basic discipline and decorum that should be followed in the college and departments. University examination pattern & syllabus which combined with biochemistry were clearly explained with the mark distribution. She explained detailed about practical examination with vivo voice. Finally, the prescribed textbooks in physiology were also highlighted to the students.

CDE PROGRAM ON "Updates On Oral Pathology "

Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for women, has organized a Continuing Dental Education programme entitled “ORAL PATHOLOGY- THE PILLAR OF DENTISTRY & SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH 101” on 21th June 2023. This program was a package of recent updates on pigmented lesions, reading hematological report and adjunctive diagnostic aids. The whole CDE program was conducted for 6 hours and 5 credit points were given by our Tamil Nadu Dental Council and 320 participants have attended the program.

The program began at 09:30 am with registration of the participants, prayer song and lighting of lamp. The program was hosted by CRRI student Miss. Yokataa and Miss. Monika

SUMMARY OF 1st SESSION:

The first lecture of the session was presented by Prof., Dr. V. Ramesh MDS, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Former Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Puducherry, has given lecture on topic “Oral Pathology - The Pillar Of Clinical Dentistry” between 10:00 am to 11:30 am. His explanation on clinical features of various lesions, how histopathological finding is more important to prognosis and diagnosis of disease. His explanation gave minute details on various features that benefitted the participants for diagnosing various lesions .

SUMMARY OF 2nd SESSIONS

The second lecture of the session was given Prof., Dr. Prasad MDS, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Microbiology in KSR Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Tiruchengode has given the lecture on topic “Scientific Research 101” between 11:30 to 01:00 pm. His explanation on the topics like research methodology, biostatics were really informative.

Second BDS (2022-23) Orientation programme

Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a UG – Second BDS (2022-23) Orientation programme on 15th June 2023 at the College auditorium.

Introduction session - Second year staff in- charge

The programme commenced with a brief outline on syllabus and curriculum of second year departments and students role during second year BDS by Dr. M.Saranya MDS., Associate Professor of Oral Pathology. She explained about safety measures during laboratory hours and SOP inside the college campus. She emphasized on standard sterilization protocols, instrumentations and dress code in the department. She has also highlighted the research activities and research projects carried out in the department and the examination pattern in both theory and clinical. Finally, she advised the students on strict discipline, punctuality and maintaining the protocol during clinical practice.

First session- Department of General Pathology

In the second session Dr. M. Saranya MDS., Associate Professor of Oral Pathology , explained clearly about the role and responsibilities in the General Pathology department. She also explained in detail about work to be completed in the department as per the TN Dr MGR Medical University & DCI Norms, which included the lab work, hematology, urine analysis and histopathology slides, specimens and spotters. She encouraged them to involve in research activities, poster and paper presentation at various conferences.

Second session- Department of Microbiology

Miss.K.Kiruthika, MSC., Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology briefed the students about the second year curriculum including the syllabus and university examination pattern. The students were stressed about the need for attending all the internal assessment examinations. Students were instructed about the discipline to be maintained in the department and also the list of instruments to be brought to the department during clinical postings.

A detailed overview about the department activities and the laboratory procedures performed in the department were explained. The students were briefed about the covid protocols to be practiced in the department of Microbiology.

Third session- Department of Pharmacology

Dr. Arul Raja.S.. Msc, Ph.D Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology explained about the aspects of Pharmacology. The faculties of the department with their respective role were also mentioned by him. The second year students were instructed about the discipline to be maintained in the department, about laboratory instruments to be brought, sterilization protocols to be followed, importance of personal protective measures and books to be referred. The students were briefed about course outcome. The importance of various medications used in dentistry was also emphasized. The syllabus and the curriculum for second year students and marks and exam pattern were discussed. Overall, the programme was targeted to orient the second year students about department activities and provoke good pharmacological knowledge.

Fourth session- Department of Conservative Dentistry

Dr.J.S.Sivakumar, MDS, Ph.D, Professor, Dr.J.Saravanapriyan, MDS, Professor Dr.M.Chittrarasu, MDS, Ph.D, Associate Professor, Dr.G.Jayanthi, MDS, Senior lecturer, Dr.Reveena Merrin Benny, MDS, Senior lecturer & Dr.A.Aravindhkumar, MDS, Senior lecturer, from the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics delivered an orientation lecture about the Pre-clinical training to the second BDS students. They started the session by introducing all the teachers of the department. Then they explained about the infrastructure and other facilities of the department in detail with adequate phantom lab. They also stressed the student about basic discipline and decorum to be followed in the pre-clinics in detail. The work to be completed were listed. Equipments needed for the pre-clinical procedures, logbook, assignment notebook and their maintenance were explained. Cavity cutting quota, university exam syllabus and pattern were clearly explained with the marks distribution. Finally, the prescribed textbooks and reference textbooks were enlisted to the students

Fifth session - Department of Prosthodontics

In the session Dr.Balu.K.,MDS., Dr.Devaki.,MDS, Dr.R.Ajay MDS Dr.M.Vishwanathan,.,MDS, Dr.S.Suganya.,MDS, Dr.B.S.Vishnupriya,.,MDS., Department of Prosthodontics commenced the speech related to orientation and overview about the curriculum and syllabus in the subject Pre – clinical Prosthodontics and Dental materials to second year students. The students were instructed about their pre-clinical work and protocol that should be followed during their lab postings and they were also explained regarding the topics to be covered during lecture classes. A brief description about the department facilities like the working area, class room and library were highlighted. Finally, she stressed about the basic concepts of Prosthodontics and its major role in dentistry

Direct Anterior Esthetics – An Overview From Start To Finish

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education program on “Direct Anterior Esthetics – An overview from start to finish” on 28th April 2023 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on Direct Anterior Esthetics that are being done in our field. This academic event was scheduled for 8 hours and accredited with 4 Credit points by our esteemed Tamil Nadu Dental Council (TNDC Approval number: 152/23) with 173 delegates participated in this Programme

The programme began with the registration of the delegates at 08.30 AM. The Welcome address was delivered by Dr.A.Andamuthu Sivakumar, (Professor & Head of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics).

Lighting the Lamp was done by Dr.N.Balan (Principal), Dr.Adil Abdulla (Guest Speaker), Dr.S.Nagalakshmi (Professor & Head, Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics), Dr.N.Vathsala.N (Professor, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics) and Dr.R.Ragavi (III year Post Graduate, Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics).

Introduction of the Guest speaker was done by Dr.J.S.Sivakumar, (Professor, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics).

The first lecture commenced from 10.00 AM – 11.00 AM, the speaker of this session was Dr.Adil Abdulla. He delivered the lecture on the topic “Direct Anterior Esthetics – An overview from start to finish”. Followed by tea break from 11.00 AM – 11.30 AM.

The second session of the lecture continued from 11.30 AM – 12.30 PM. He delivered the lecture on “Lustrous Glow”. Followed by lunch break from 12.30 PM - 1.30 PM and demonstration from 1.30 PM – 2.30 PM.

ROADS PAVED IN PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY- PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

The program “Roads paved in public health dentistry- personal experience 1967-2001” started at 2:00 pm on 10th April 2023. This academic program was accredited with 1 CDE point by our Tamil Nadu State Council. Around 160 participants gathered for the program. Started with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, the Dignitaries Dr. T. Samraj MDS., (Guest speaker) Dr. Balan MDS., (Principal) Dr. S. Nagalakshmi MDS., (Vice-Principal and HOD of Orthodontics) Dr. Balu MDS.,(Vice- Principal and HOD of Prosthodontics) and Dr. Lalithambigai MDS ( Public Health Dentistry) lightened the Kuthuvilakku.

The Felicitation, of the Guest speaker Dr. T. Samraj MDS., by Dr. N Balan MDS., Principal. Dr. Shankar MDS., welcomed the gathering. Guest Speaker was introduced by Prof. Dr. S. Nagalakshmi MDS.

The lecture of the day was on the topic “ROADS PAVED IN PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY” which was presented by our guest speaker Dr.Samraj MDS. He gave us an insight about how the public health dentistry evolved over the years during his practice, its development and his contribution towards the faculty. He imposed the idea of every dentist being a public health professional in the minds of students. It was followed by a question and answer session in which the participants actively raised their doubts and clarifications were given for the same.

This programme came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dr.Pawan Kumar Bhandari MDS and finally The National Anthem.

Intraoral Scanners and Clear Aligners

Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme on “Intraoral scanners and Clear Aligners” on 31 March 2023 in the college auditorium. This academic program was accredited with 5 CDE points by our Tamil Nadu State Council. Around 440 participants took part in this event out of 440 participants 30 participants where from the other colleges.

The programme started at 9 am with a prayer song to invoke the blessings of the Almighty.

The welcome speech was given by Dr.Nagalakshmi M.D.S., Professor and Head ,Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. Following Dr. Pawan M.D.S, Department of Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics introduced the guest speaker Dr.Sudarson MDS.

The first lecture of the day was on the topic “Go Digital”-Intraoral scanners which was presented by our guest speaker Dr.Sudarsan MDS. He gave us an insight about modern age orthodontics and its development to ease the practice of the practioner. It was followed by a question and answer session in which the participants actively raised their doubts and clarifications were given for the same.

Orthopaedics introduced the guest speaker Dr. Dinesh Nandakumar.

The second lecture was delivered by Dr.Dinesh Nandakumar MDS on the topic “Role of Intraoral scanners in clear aligners”. He explained about the pros and cons of usage of clear aligners and its superiority in aesthetics and about case selection. It was followed by a question and answer session where the participants actively participated and cleared their doubts and queries.

There was a live demo of intraoral scanning on patients through zoom platform where our participants learned how to use a scanner, properties and cost of the scanning procedures.

Following the live demonstration there was a short lunch break

The afternoon session started with a workshop on the topic ”Hands on clear aligner treatment planning and software protocols” for the postgraduates of Orthodontics Department. It was followed by a question and answer session.This programme was an eye opener and brain kindler to the postgraduates in understanding the newer advancements and ease of usage and superior aesthetics of clear aligners.

Women's Day

The International Women’s Day 2023 was celebrated in Vivekanandha Dental college for Women on March 8th 2023.The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day [IWD] was #Embrace Equity. Dr. Padma Devi M.S.(Obstetrician and Gynecologist ) from Jeevan Hospital, Rasipuram was the guest of honor.

The program started around 9:30am with a prayer song followed by lighting of lamp.

The welcome address was proposed by an internship student of VDCW. Dr. Vennila introduced the guest of honor. Then the guest of honor proceeded the days celebration with a talk on ” Menstrual health and Menstrual cups”. She gave an insight on the importance and the usage of reusable menstrual cups and its pros and cons . Her lecture was very informative and interactive. At the end of the lecture, there was an interactive session, where the students and the staffs came up with various queries regarding HPV vaccine, fibroids, cervical cancer, PAP smear, etc. Dr. Padma Devi enlightened each and every person with her knowledge on women’s health.

Following the talk of guest of Honor, Dr. Nagalakshmi, Vice principle of VDCW felicitated the chief guest with a shawl and memento. Then, she gave us crisp talk on the theme of IWD 2023 #Embrace Equity and also gave various life examples.

Following the lunch break, one of our intern student gave a speech about adoring womanhood. The female janitors of VDCW were given a token of love and appreciation for their immense contribution in maintaining the cleanliness of the institution. Certificate of appreciation was given to Dr. Subulakshmi of Department of Anatomy, as the best teaching staff and Nalini, office staff was awarded the best non-teaching staff for their work in the development of the institution.

A debate was conducted and various awards were distributed to ten students of each batch on categories embracing womanhood. The awards were selected by a set of jury members. The Women’s Day celebration in VDCW ended colorfully with various cultural events including dance, song, poem recitation, etc. performed by the students of VDCW. This IWD 2023 celebration in VDCW ended with a vote of thanks and a national anthem




Lecture on Road Safety

The Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEONS DAY Programme titled “ROAD SAFETY”. On behalf of OMFS DAY celebration we conducted QUIZ and PENCIL SKETCHING EVENT on 10.02.2023.

The programme was conducted at vivekanandha dental college, auditorium on 13.02.2023 to enhance the knowledge and awareness about road safety measures.

This academic event was scheduled for 3 and half hours where in 286 delegates participated in the programme.

The programme began with the formal Inaugural function at 1 AM . The Welcome address was delivered by our respected head of the department Dr.Saravanan MDS., Professor& HOD.

The speaker was introduced by Dr.Narendar MDS., Professor from 2pm- 2.15pm

Summary of sessions

The guest lecture was between 2.30 to 3.15 pm by the guest speaker Dr.Subramaniam M.D.S., oral and maxillofacial surgery, Professor & Head, Department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan dental college, Perambalur.

He spoke about road traffic accidents and enlightened the crowd on importance of wearing seatbelt, helmet. He also explained about Road traffic accidents and post complications faced by the patient and surgeons.

The lecture was followed by prize distribution for the students who participated in quiz and pencil sketching conducted on OMFS DAY and students participated in SURGICAL STRIKE 2K23 held on SRM DENTAL COLLEGE RAMAPURAM.

The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Indra Kumar MDS Reader and the OMFS DAY program was concluded with awarding the memento of appreciation to the guest speaker. 3:30 pm

CHIEF CHEST FELICITATION

VIVEKANANDHA DENTAL COLLEGE FOR WOMEN conducted a BASIC LIFE SUPPORT PROGRAMME where students demonstrated the CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION using mannequin on 10.02.2023 ,15.02.2023,16.02.2023.

Basic Education on Aesthetic Surgical Treatment

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery of Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme. The topic was – “BASIC EDUCATION ON AESTHETIC SURGICAL TREATMENT” on 8.2.2023 at the college auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance the knowledge on facial aesthetics.

This academic event was scheduled for 6 hours and accredited with 5 credit points by the esteemed Tamilnadu Dental council where in 271 delegates participated in the programme. Also practicing oral & maxillofacial surgeons participated.

The programme began with the formal Inaugural function at 9:30-10:00 am. The Welcome address was delivered by our respected head of the department Dr.K.Saravanan MDS., Professor& HOD.

The speaker was introduced by Dr. R.J. Aravind MDS., Professor from 10.00am- 10.15am

Summary of sessions

The guest lecture part I was between 10.15am - 11.30 am by the guest speaker Dr.Seema Alice Mathew M.D.S, Associate professor in Saveetha Dental College, Chennai on Aesthetic Regions of face.

Video demos on how to administer fillers was given from 1.30-2.30pm where she gave brief description on techniques of administering fillers in all planes.

The lecture on complication of Botox and fillers was given from 2.30 to 3.00 pm where she gave brief description about managing the complications.

There was an Interactive session from 3.00 to 3.30 pm with the guest speaker and participants.

The vote of thanks was given by Dr.R.Narendar M.D.S., Professor and the CDE program was concluded with awarding the certificate of appreciation to the guest speaker. 3:30-3:45 pm

An Insight into CBCT

Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Vivekanandha Dental College for Women has conducted a Continuing Dental Education programme on ‘AN INSIGHT INTO CBCT’ on 24th JANUARY 2023 at the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance our knowledge on CBCT. This academic event was scheduled for 6 hours & 30 minutes and accredited with 5 Credit points by our esteemed Tamilnadu Dental Council with 215 delegates participated in this Programme.

Summary of Sessions

The first session of the lecture series was between 09.45AM - 10.45 AM, the speaker was Dr. SABITHA GOKULRAJ., MDS., who delivered the topic on “Evolution from 2D to 3D”. She gave brief description on Evolution, basic principle, components of image production, strength and limitations of CBCT.

The second lecture was between 11.00AM - 11.45 AM, the speaker was Dr. DURGADEVI P., MDS., who delivered the topic on “Multiplanar Imaging and Anatomical landmarks”. She gave brief description about how to view a CBCT image and landmarks in axial, coronal and sagittal sections.

The third lecture was between 11.45AM - 12.30 PM, the speaker was Dr. SABITHA GOKULRAJ., MDS. and she discussed about “Implications of CBCT in dentistry” which was about application of CBCT in various fields of dentistry.

The fourth lecture was between 12.30PM - 01.15 PM, the speaker was Dr. DURGADEVI P., MDS., and discussion was about “Navigation tools in CS software”.

The post-lunch session “Hands-on programme in CBCT” between 2.00PM – 3.30PM was conducted.

Periodontal Medicine –Recent Advances

The Department of Periodontics , Vivekanandha Dental College for Women conducted a Continuing Dental Education Programme titled –“PERIODONTAL MEDICINE-RECENT ADVANCES” on 20.1.23 at the college auditorium. The programme was conducted to enhance the knowledge on periodontal medicine as a rapidly emerging branch of periodontology which focuses on relationship between periodontal health and systemic diseases.

300 delegates participated in this academic event scheduled for One day with two rounds of quiz competitions.

Summary of sessions

The lecture was started by our HOD Dr.Rajkumar Daniel MDS on topic “Periodontitis and respiratory disease.” which focused on pathological connection and clinical aspect of managing such patients.

The guest speaker was Dr.G.Rohini MDS, Ph.D., Associate Professor, CSI Dental College and Research Institute, Madurai. The lecture was on the topic “Periodontal Medicine-Recent Advances”.She gave a detailed description about the systemic conditions and its implication on Periodontium, its clinical and biologic correlations in terms of markers.

Second session of lecture – How to select a Research topic in Periodontics, in which she emphasized on importance in selecting the research topic and also shared her experience on her research work.

Preliminary round of quiz was conducted for participants guided by Dr.Surya, Dr.Saranya, Dr.Namrin

Final round of quiz was conducted by Dr.Vennila MDS, Associate Professor Dr.Gayathri Priyardharsini MDS Associate Professor and also presented Lecture on Periodontal disease and Pregnancy outcomes, Periodontal disease and Diabetes Mellitus respectively.

Pongal Festival 2023

Pongal is the harvest festival of Tamil Nadu, celebrated on the first day of ‘Thai’ (Tamil month). A festival to thank God for all his goodness and mercies and to look forward to a prosperous year. It usually falls on the 14th or 15th of January in the English calendar. Vivekanandha dental College for women celebrated Pongal on the 13th of January for the year 2023.

Students were asked to report by 9:00 a.m. The students arrived in traditional saree to mark the occasion. The celebration started around 9:30 a.m. The day started with lightning the lamp by each year student representatives. Under respective departments staff supervision, the entrance of the college was decorated with colourful Rangoli and Pongal celebration was started. It was an ambience filled with revelry, music, dance and the joyful faces reverberated with big smiles.

Meanwhile there were other activities conducted. The CRRI had organized various on-stage events like dance, singing, speech, debate. To add to, this year we had two special programs called Villupattu to entertain, where one was held by staff in charge and the other coordinated by Dr. Prarthana post graduate, which was purely entertaining as well as culturally integral.

Outdoor competition for the students to celebrate the traditional art forms were organized like 'uri adithal', a traditional game where people are blindfolded and are asked to hit a mud pot hanging from a rope with a rod. The day came to an end where everybody left home with memories as it was yet another joyous celebration Vivekanandha dental College for women had to offer.
